Miho Takagi began skating at age five, and in 2009 won the overall prize at the All-Japan Juniors Speed Skating Championships.

In 2009, she became the youngest Olympic athlete (Vancouver Olympics) in Japanese speedskating history, competing in the 1000m, 1500m and team pursuit.

Takagi won all four events at the 2016 Japanese National Championships, making her the first athlete in 14 years, and the seventh ever, to secure a perfect win.

In 2018 she won three medals at the Pyeongchang Olympics.

She became the first Japanese woman to compete in both the Summer and Winter Olympics and to win gold, silver and bronze medals.

She became the first Japanese athlete to win in group pursuit at the world cup for three consecutive seasons, the first Japanese woman to win the 1500m overall, and the first Japanese woman to win every event.

In the spring of 2018, Takagi was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon.

At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, she competed in five events (four individual, one group) and appeared in seven races in total including the group pursuit time trials and preliminary round.

Her successes at the Beijing Olympics (winning four medals at the Winter Olympics) were the most of any Japanese athlete in history. Combined with her record from the Pyeongchang Olympic Games, she has won the most medals of any female Japanese athlete at the Olympic Games, with seven medals in total.

In April of 2022, she was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
