TOKIO INKARAMI Boccia Team杉村 英孝SUGIMURA Hidetaka
Position/Class: BC2
Hidetaka Sugimura started playing boccia in his third year of high school after watching boccia’s video at school. Since his debut at the London 2012 Paralympics, he has participated in three consecutive Paralympic Games.
Sugimura contributed to winning the team silver medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympics and won the individual gold medal and team bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
He was born with cerebral palsy, which limits the movement of both his hands and feet. Despite the difficulty in maintaining body balance due to cerebral palsy, and the rarity of athletes with such conditions engaging in physical training, Sugimura incorporated core training after the Rio 2016 Paralympics and achieved the long-desired individual gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
